PBGC About Us

The Prospect Boys and Girls Club is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the youth of our community, ages 3-19, the opportunity to participate in activities ranging from soccer to cheerleading. We are governed and operated by an all-volunteer group of parents, friends and family that oversee the activities of the Club and all of its programs.

In order to offer every child the same opportunity to participate, we attempt to keep costs for our membership to a minimum. We even have financial aid scholarships available for families in need. In order to keep costs to a minimum, all the while maintaining our current facilities, and to continue to grow and expand offered activities, your support is imperative. We ask that you please continue your generous support. With your help our organization really can provide "A Safe Place for Kids to Play Sports!"

While the seasons of the year change, so do our programs. Each of our sports is detailed here to provide you with an idea of what each program has to offer.

BASEBALL

Our Baseball Program is divided into Recreational and Travel Leagues.

Recreational League

The Recreational League is comprised of the following divisions:

T-Ball for Ages 5 & 6
Pee Wee for Ages 7 & 8
Minors for Ages 9 & 10
Majors for Ages 11 & 12

These leagues include teams from West Sunbury, Slippery Rock and Harrisville, and are designed to introduce the players to the fundamentals of Baseball. As the players grow and develop in the program, more competition is introduced to challenge the youth athletes. These programs are open to both boys and girls.

The Prospect Boys and Girls Club provides each child a T-shirt and hat which are theirs to keep. Pants are provided, but must be returned to the club at the end of the season. The Club provides catcher's equipment, and batting helmets, but players are responsible for bats, gloves, and cleats.

Travel League

The Travel League is comprised of the following divisions:

NBC Pony League for Ages 13 & 14
Colt League for Ages 15 & 16
American Legion League of Western Pennsylvania for Ages 15 to 19

These leagues are for the advanced player who wants to further develop their Baseball skills. These players are more likely to play High School and College baseball as they continue in their development.

BASKETBALL

Our basketball program is open to anyone from 2nd to 5th grade. The program is a winter program running from January to March, with all games being played at Moraine Elementary School in Prospect. This league was designed for the children to learn the game of basketball, and most importantly to have FUN! As coaches and parents we can help the children to be proud of their performances by de-emphasizing winning, and by praising their efforts. Emphasis is placed on learning the skills and having fun rather than the win-loss record. This is a non-competitive basketball league. First time players will need to purchase a reversible jersey, which can be used each year. We recommend purchasing a jersey one size larger than your child usually wears to provide you the opportunity to use the jersey more than one year. Additional jerseys may be purchased as needed in future years.

Game Rules

- Coaches will do their best to provide equal playing time for all players. Players will be substituted at 5 minute intervals, but will be given the opportunity to rest an additional 5 minutes if desired.
- The games will consist of four 10 minute quarters.
- Coaches will keep track of scoring, but this score will not be displayed. No individual scores will be kept. Our main emphasis is skill development, not a win/loss record.
- Any player who displays poor sportsmanship, argues with referees, swears or intentionally injures another player will receive a technical foul, and will be out for the remainder of the game. The player will also be suspended from the next game they attend.
- When school is canceled or dismissed early, there will be no basketball that night. Follow your schedule for the next game or practice unless your coach provides other instructions.

CHEERLEADING

Our Cheerleading program provides spirit for the Prospect Chiefs Football Team and its fans. Cheerleading consists of three squads, a Senior squad, a Junior squad, and a Bantam squad. Each of these squads will be selected during the tryouts in March or April prior to the season. Girls that will be between the ages of 7 and 12 by August 1st of the season may try out for the squads.

Senior Cheerleaders for girls ages 11 and 12
Junior Cheerleaders for girls ages 9 and 10
Bantam Cheerleaders for girls ages 7 and 8

Practices start in June (at the discretion of the coach) and schedules will be setup by the coach(es) of each squad. All cheerleaders are required to attend and be on time for practices. During June, July and August practices may be held during the day. Games start in the middle of August and continue every Saturday through October.

Costs other than membership and sports fees are involved with cheerleading. Parents will be responsible for all costs. Fund-raisers will be held to help cover the additional costs.

In addition to the football games, the girls enjoy festivities at a Bonfire to kick off the season, a Homecoming Game honoring our seniors, a Cheerleading Competition, and Banquet at the close of the year.

FOOTBALL

The Prospect Chiefs Football program is a member of The ABC Youth Football League, which is comprised of 14 teams from surrounding counties. The program is made up of 3 age groups, with skills being taught at the appropriate level for that age. To avoid serious injury, there is also a weight limitation for the players in each age group.

Seniors - 11 & 12 year olds with a max weight of 150 lbs.
Juniors - 9 & 10 year old with a max weight of 135 lbs.
Bantams - 7 & 8 year old with a max weight of 120 lbs. - Sport Fee $50.00

The Senior and Junior teams play a regulation football game with Officials provided by the League, while the Bantam program plays a scrimmage supervised by the coaches of both teams. No scores are kept in the Bantam games. The Prospect Boys and Girls Club provides a uniform and all necessary pads, helmet and equipment, which must be returned at the conclusion of the season. Players are responsible for providing their own rubber cleats. The Prospect Chiefs Football program is governed by it's own Officers and Board of Directors that report to the Prospect Boys and Girls Club, and operates under the Bylaws of the Prospect Youth Football Program

Tots League

This league is geared towards 3 and 4-year old boys and girls who want to learn about the game. This league will meet once per week for about an hour, learning how to kick and pass the ball. They will play short scrimmages after each practice, with teams made up of the players available from that night's practice.
